Paul Watson: The Icy Death of Sealers is not as Tragic as an Animal's death

Watson described sealers as "sadistic baby killers" and "vicious killers who are now pleading for sympathy because some of their own died while engaged in a viciously brutal activity."

It's just another headline grabbing opportunity for Canada's King of Hate, Paul Watson, to say that it's more tragic for seals to die than it was for these men.

Why this person has not been convicted of hate crimes is a wonder. Since the 1970's this people-hating fundraiser has spewed the kinds of statements that have sent others to prison on charges of hate crimes. Paul is in the same class as two other well known Canadian hatemongers, Jim Keegstra and Ernst Zundel.

In 1990, the supreme court convicted anti-Jew, and teacher, Jim Keegstra for going beyond freedom of expression and promoting hate to his students. Ernst Zundel, author of a book called The Hitler We Love and Why, denied the killing of 6 million Jews, was put in a Canadian prison, and deported. Unfortunately, the freedom of speech argument gives these hate-loving people years of publicity, though always negative, to shine a light on their distorted and malicious viewpoints. It's the same for Paul Watson. He's been spitting venom for decades at Eastern Canadians, but yet the low-life is allowed to express his hate year after year.

In his travelling sideshow business of hate-based fundraising, his usual laser guided target this time of year is East Coast Sealers. And it's predictable, maybe just a variation of past hate ..

Watson's level of hate for a people in at least four provinces, is ghoulish. His antics and lies have been well known for many years. What may not have been known is that Green Party leader, Elizabeth May had a close association with Watson. Now, after his comments following sealers having died, does she say she does not want to be associated with him.

Elizabeth May told the Halifax Chronicle Herald yesterday that she will resign from the advisory board of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Well congratulations Ms May! What guts, what representation, and what a statement from you, and it only took the lives of four sealers for you to dissociate yourself from bottom feeders like Watson.

You should have done long ago, what the fishermen in St. Pierre did, cut the ties with the extremist jerk. They deserve congratulations for not putting up with his remarks, an example for any decent person.

This time of year is the Christmas season for animal rights fundraising. They depend on continued false images and information to harvest millions of dollars for their organizations. There are surely many rational and decent people who do care for animals, but Paul Watson is not one of of them.

Media Fails to Expose Animal Rights Activist Deception

(Just in: European Union rejects ban on seal fur imports)Much of the media is missing or avoiding the real story of the seal hunt and annual protest fundraiser. The real story is that the cute seal is the best way to get money from the public, for animal rights activists (ARAs). Deceit artist Paul Watson told CBC journalist Barbara Frum this very thing in the 1970s. Watson even admitted that the natural tear production from baby seals was exploited to make people think that the seals were crying.

Still today, media puts the onus on the sealing industry to be defensive rather than approach the story in a way that makes animal rights activist groups justify their methods of lying to the public to get millions in donations.

In a conversation I had with a DFO scientist who regularly goes to the seal hunt front to see observe it, the importance of the landmark Report of the Royal Commission on the Seal Hunt became evident. The report, still very valid, said that the hunt was done in a humane way. It was an extensive and comprehensive study with assessments from veterinarians and scientists, social analysts, and people involved in both sides of the issue. That was also at the time that the hakapik was used. There are plenty of other sources from veterinarian groups which also conclude that the hunt is humane.

CBC tv still uses images of the hakapik while doing stories on the hunt. For years just a small percentage of the hunt used this very humane method, and now it is not used at all. But media still chooses to use this image which is associated with the often fed image of a barbarian. That is one of the major images promoted by ARAs, in addition to the white seal pup, to lie to the public. The white coat seal has been illegal to hunt for 20 years. Still protestors will don white coat seal costumes to imply that these are the helpless animals being taken. The CBC will of course run that footage.

The Anna Nicole Smith channel (CNN) will do the same if they run out of sensational stories. CTV will probably do the same. Animal rights activists raise money through deception, and this type of story is Fifth Estate material, or W5. But the way in which major media broadcasts the annual seal hunt fundraiser/protest is just the way swindlers like Paul Watson, Ingrid Newkirk and their ilk like.

Cheques, Lies & Videotape: The Truth on Seal Hunt Protest Groups

Public deception is a strategy animal rights groups use to get the publics moral and financial support. Just as businesses look forward to the Christmas season, the most profitable time of year, animal rights groups look forward to the seal hunt each season. They probably don't actually want it to stop because money must really roll in when celebrities and images of white coat seals are shown on tv. The hunting of white coats has been illegal since 1987. They rely upon presumed ignorance to deliver false information. This is in line with Paul Watson's media manipulation philosophy. Watson is a member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. In his 1993 book, Earthforce: An Earth Warrior's Guide to Strategy, he said,

He justifies this approach by saying that,

That's not only deceitful, but insulting to the public. Let's face it, the average person is probably too busy to spend time researching the myths and realities of the seal hunt. As well, people have shorter attention spans, so they want quick concise information. Well, a cute picture of a white coat seal pup, will save a thousand words, and make millions of dollars for animal rights groups. In the past several weeks, the McCartneys, Bridget Bardot and others have either been duped into, or have shamelessly misinformed the public about the seal hunt and Newfoundlanders. Since the word "barbaric" is used on the PETA web site, it is not surprising Heather Mills-McCartney, a PETA member, used it when describing how people conduct the hunt. I wonder if Heather was aware that the president of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk, said,

"PETA's publicity formula -- eighty percent outrage, ten percent each of celebrity and truth." - Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA (The New Yorker, 2003)

Did the McCartneys know that under Newkirk, PETA has donated tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals, and the extremist group ALF, Animal Liberation Front (animalscam.com)?

While PETA leaders promote animal rights, when it comes to actual human rights, they are not so sympathetic. Take for example, Dan Mathews, vice-president of PETA. In 2000, he declared his admiration for the man who shot and killed Gianni Versace.

Paul Watson, at an animal rights convention condoned violence when he said,

Watson also lied to Norwegian officials when he said his ship was rammed, when in fact video footage showed that his vessel did the ramming (High North Alliance). So before people start sending cheques to these groups, they should know who theyre dealing with.

The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (also, see CBC side link) has listed myths and realities of the seal hunt for anyone to see. It says the seal population has more than tripled since the 1970s, no subsidies are given to sealers, the hunt is both humane and efficient, and killing white coats is actually illegal. So when Bridget Bardots press conference showed video images of white coats being killed, she and the animal rights groups are depending on peoples ignorance to convey false information. It's an old method but the public may be finally seeing through this poor acting and old script. Of the $113 million in assets the Humane Society of the US has accumulated (activistcash.com), HSUS raises enough money to finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it does not operate a single one anywhere.

For people like Watson, Newkirk and Mathews, anything goes when it comes to getting publicity, including violence and fudging the facts. Rather than their support growing, their continued used of lies just speak of desperation. With the public exposure of the phony boycott (see the Centre for Consumer Freedom website) and other fabrications, people will think twice before supporting groups who think that the truth is irrelevant.
